Hopelessly out of practice

I have been painting in Gouache. I went in my car to different spots and just felt weird so I came home and went on my daily Covid walk with my Gouache in hand and felt much better to paint what I am seeing and experiencing in real life. The Park. I walk through Penlee park and back up through Morab Gardens. Slowly with breaks.. It has been cold so I have not been able to stay long and suffer for my Art. But the spark is there. The love is there. and slowly I am building up my painting stamina.

Figures

Whilst I am still locked in I am struggling a bit to find new ground. and seem to arrive at doing figures. I love these. It seems the ground is the most important thing. What these figures actually sit on, in other words getting the white  ground nice and thick and dry and then staining it  and getting a nice patina

Flowers in Winter

During this freezing spell, I have been working on Flower painting. The studio has been freezing cold and my hands get too cold even with the heater on so I can only do short bursts, but I have got two done and a small one that I did indoors on my lap in the warm.
This still needs work as there are some problems with the colours sinking a bit but basically, this is it. On a Vermillion ground.

Floral painting

Just managed to squeeze some time in today to do some painting. I started really not knowing where I was going so as I went along I said to myself " keep going, keep going " I was only at the end that I thought, Ahh! It`s half decent this. It is good practice for me to have faith and keep going through the hole that you find yourself in when you don't know where you are going and you just have to finish.
I`ll now leave it until the morning and see what I think as I can already see it needs balancing on the right.

Aldeburgh Moon

I just have to wait for this to dry now before I can put the finishing touches to it. Really happy with this

Working on Alderburgh as my subject matter. here is another depiction 20 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas.

Wednesday 7 February 2018

This is an oil of one of my Gouache sketches of Alderburgh. I am itching to get out and paint. I have a friend who has already been out for 3 hours and painted. He said his fingers were numb with cold. I can do flowers in the studio but I am fast running out of ideas .it is frustrating. I have painted some cracking studio paintings and generally, I feel like I am improving in oil, except when I drink too much coffee, then it`s all enthusiasm and no steady eye. Soon I hope to be out there.
