Newlyn

And finally, for a Friday this oil is coming along goodly. It pays to get stuck in and suffer a little for your art.

Returning from the Scillonian

Firstly the sun has come out and there is warmth in the air and I can't wait to get out but I just have to finish what I was doing. I wanted to do a smaller version of this and put people in. There a bit wet so they stand out a bit too much but when the paint dries they should go back.

Antibes

Finished. I love doing these they are such fun and a welcome break. Will make a great Licensing image.
By the way, I have been to Antibes and did sketch and paint and swim right here with my then young family. This is done from those sketches, although a few years back now.

Antibes

It is so nice to start something fun and lighthearted after these nice but subdued pieces I have been working on of late.

A lot going on

Well with this one I added people and realised that it would not work with people, mostly because it is so large. So I scrubbed them out which is always a risk. I am sure if I do another smaller one  with people it would work which I intend to do next.

The picture below it coming along nicely and I have made some sweeping changes which always feels good. Structurally it is nearly complete and works well as a design. It needs lots of detailed attention still and I have to work out a few problems . Steady as she goes Captain...

Penzance

I`m just trying it out in  a frame

Penzance

I have started another monster 100cmx80cm oil on board using earth colours it`s a good start looking forward to getting some people in. I like the abstract shapes and muted sombre tones that give a feeling of warmth. I also think that with the muted colours I can see and look into the painting more. I can connect easier.

Godrevy Fisherman Returning

I have had this finished painting in my studio for weeks and not really liked it. So I had it framed because I had second thoughts when I saw it again. Now I love it and think it is one of my best yet.

Monday 13 February 2017

I did not get much work done today as I got up late and then had to go to the dump and then to Solo to get more board and then prime that up ready and then to the Art shop to get Gesso and two large Hog hair brushes. But then got in to nearly finish this little oil. I like this

2 on the go to end the week.

It is usual to have at least three or four paintings on the go at any one time so here are two on the go paintings to end the week.

Blue Tree

Nearly finished. Been spending the day on this. Freezing cold outside. We don`t often get it this cold here in Penzance.

Mousehole

Working on a commission for a Mousehole dark night time painting. Very fitting for this gloomy weather although there are sparks of sunshine and I hope to get out tomorrow.

Godrevy Still Life

Sticking with the still life. This is probably my favourite way of working. It`s a 16 x 16-inch canvas (No.166 oil primed linen from Bird and Davies.) which I stretch myself.
I like them because I love working in oil and 16 x16 inches is handleable and I can get the gist of it in a day and if it isn`t working you can just rub off.

Penzance

I've been wanting to do this spot in Penzance for ages so managed to get down later in the afternoon to get something started. Will let it dry for a couple of days and get back there.
